Nature of Pure Devotee

Arjuna refused to fight the war out of compassion for his friends and relatives

In the first chapter of the Bhagavad Gita we saw how upon Arjun's request krsna placed the chariot in between two phalanxes of soldiers.
Senayor ubhayor madhye ratham sthapaya me acyuta (BG 1.21)

Krsna has agreed to take an inferior position as Arjuna's charioteer. So this is very nice position for devotional service. Non devotees aspire to merge into the existence of the supreme or to become one with krsna. But by devotionl service a devotee can become greater than krsna even up to the stage of ordering krsna, just as Arjuna,
that is power of Pure devotional service. Pure devotional service is rendered without any material motivation, So here we see that Arjuna has identified himself with the body, considering himself to be belonging to the kuru family with all his relatives, brothers, nephews, his grandfather ad others. therefore he refused to fight.

Identifying our Disease

In the Shastra it is said, "Anyone who identifies with this material body is animal." Sa eva Go-Kharah. Go means cows and Khara mean Ass. The impetus to maintain one's wife, children and family is economic development. such a person considers this Earth to be Worshipable. and he see the places of pilgrimages as merely the water there but has no interest to associate with persons who are expert in transcendental knowledge. such persons are called go-khara

So Arjuna here played the part of a go-Khara an ordinary person. He became so much over whelmed that he gave up his weapons and sat down, tightly "My dear Krsna, I cannot fight" and he was crying, despite being Kshatriya. therefore he required to hear Krsna's instructions.

So Arjuna Was Crying:" I am put in such a position that I have to fight and I have to kill my brothers, my nephews, my grandfather." He was too much affected. although it appears as weakness, it is not actually weakness, it is COMPASSION. Devotees are Para Dukha-Dukhi they are unhappy seeing others unhappy. That is the symptom of a devotee.
Generally if a person sees somebody happy he becomes unhappy that is the world situation today. Therefore to make spiritual advancement one must be non-envious.

In this material world, everything is false reality, just like mirage in a desert. There is no water, but the animal thinks there is water. He runs after it and dies. So here in this material world also, everyone of us is running after the false mirage; " There is happiness, there is happiness, there is happiness." This is called material condition, and we are envious. this is the position and therefore Krsna Begins The Bhagavad Gita to take us out of this ignorance and enviousness.

Thankyou Very Much!!
